Beech House Medical Practice has resulted from the amalgamation of several smaller practices over the years.

The original practice of Beech House was a combined practice house and surgery run by Drs Haig and Mitchell on the main street of Egremont  (what is now the NHS dental clinic). They then took in Dr Simpson and opened branch surgeries at Cleator Moor and Moor Row. When Dr Bill Hunter joined the practice a further branch surgery was opened in St Bees.

There were at the same time two other practices in Egremont on the Main Street comprising Drs Braithwaite & Strain on one side of the road and Drs Smith & Henry on the other side. Eventually in the 1970's when Beech House comprised Drs Hunter, Veitch and Earnshaw an on-call rota was developed with the Braithwaite and Strain practice. Dr Earnshaw then left and was replaced by Dr Ian McAndrew which was followed by the two practices amalgamating and practicing from Beech House with branch surgeries at Cleator Moor, Moor Row and St Bees.

Over the years the branch surgeries at Moor Row and St Bees have closed and in 2001 the main surgery moved to the present purpose-built building in St Bridget's Lane which was the brainchild of one of the present partners Dr Jan den Bak. We still run a large branch surgery in the Health Authority clinic at Wath Brow, Cleator Moor.
