I was secretary and Provost of the Cumbria Faculty of The Royal College of General Practitioners; past chairman of Egremont Rugby Club; past president of Cumbria Rugby Union

Jan Heijne den Bak  ARTS examen, Amsterdam (1982), FRCGP

I came to England from Holland in 1983 and joined Beech House Practice in 1986. My main clinical interests are paediatrics, obstetrics and diabetic care. I also have an interest in training, practice management, and practice development.

Outside of work I enjoy cycling, playing golf and travelling

I was born and brought up in the North East of England ("Away the Lads") and qualified from Newcastle University in 1981. I joined the practice in 1987 and my main areas of special interest within the practice are minor surgery and the use of computing and information technology in general practice.

Outside of work I enjoy squash, cricket, guitar music and more recently digital photography

Ann Longworth  BSc Med Sci, MB ChB (1983), Dip Ther

I was born in Oxford and brought up in Oxfordshire. I qualified from Leicester University in 1983. On April Fool's Day 1988 I joined Beech House and despite the start date am still here. My special interests in the practice are prescribing and medicines management as well as family planning.

Outside of work I enjoy fell walking with my son

Michael Bewick  MB BS, MRCP, FRCGP

Born 11/9/1956 I was educated at Workington grammar school and studied medicine at St Mary's Hospital medical school, London University. I have been a partner at Beech House since 1987. Other posts I have include examiner for the Royal College of General Practitioners and Local Medical Committee member. I have a wide range of interests working at Beech House including cardiovascular medicine, diabetes and rheumatology. I believe in maintaining the role of the generalist and feel family medicine should be treasured and defended from inappropriate change

Outside interests are walking, literature, wine, the theatre and music. Sanity is preserved by being the only Y chromosome out of 18 at home, with the 16X acting as a refreshing (on the whole) support.

Fiona Galloway
I have worked part time as a GP at Beech House since 1988. I am a GP trainer, GP tutor for West Cumbria and I job-share the organising of the local vocational training scheme for doctors wishing to train in general practice.
I have three sons who mop up my spare time and a dog called Bilko who gets me out into our local wood encouraging me to unwind and think.

Mary Philipsz

I graduated from Glasgow University and after a varied route, including the Antarctic and the Falklands Islands joined Beech House as a full-time salaried partner in October 2003. I have special interests in Child Health, Palliative Medicine and Remote Medicine ( not the reason I moved to Cumbria!)

Away from work I enjoy hill-walking, climbing, tennis and cooking
